Shutters are timeless

Shutters are timeless and they have long been an interior design zenith.  One must look way back to find the origins of the shutter, for example, shutters can be found in the ruins of Pompeii.  The term “Plantation Shutter” stems from the frequent use of this type of window covering in the southeastern United States in centuries past.  We prefer the term “Interior Shutter” to differentiate them from the common exterior shutters seen on the exterior of most homes.

Function

Shutters are arguably the most functional and versatile window covering in the industry.  Shutters are typically made of wood or some form of composite plastic.  This enables them to be used in various climates and cut or molded into various shapes and sizes.

Shutters can be configured to cover a window with one or more panels, which can swing, or fold as required.  There are numerous louver sizes usually ranging from two to four inches.  Controlling the louvers openness can be achieved with the traditional tilt-rod or through various hidden, invisible, or motorized tilt options.

Shutters can be custom made to fit almost any size and style of window.  Shutter panels can be directly installed on a window frame, but they are more often installed with a frame.  Shutter fames come in many different styles.  Some are meant to be installed within the window frame and some are designed to be installed outside the window frame.  Your dealer should be able to recommend the best solution.

Style

Shutters come in a wide variety of colors and wood stains Colors and Stains.  The most common is white, but companies offer them in many colors, and some will custom paint your shutters.  You may prefer real wood-stained shutters, there is usually a wide variety of stains available.

Shutter style doesn’t stop at color.  Many manufacturers offer decorative hardware such as finger pulls, brass hinges, hidden hinges, and panels with decorative carvings.  The use of decorative frames can create or recreate a window frame.  Divider rails can be added to shutters to create separate louver tilt segments, or fixed louvers can be selected.
